All season guide to Munsiyari with the best time to visit

Munsiyari is located at an altitude of 2200 m which is quite similar to that of Manali. But unlike Manali, this place provides a secluded experience devoid of the rush of a city.

For most people, the best months to visit would be March to June and mid-September to October. However, if you can bear the inconvenience of uninvited rains, you can also visit in July and August. And if you can dare the cold you can also give a visit in November - February.

The following sections explain what to expect in each season:

Munsiyari in Summer

  • By March most of the snow has melted and summer has started setting in
  • Even in peak summer, there is greenery all around and you can enjoy pleasant nature walks. There is a sound chance of getting clear views of peak all around
  • Roads conditions can be in despair during the initial few weeks of March due to damage done by snow in winter. However, they are soon repaired and are mostly good thereafter
  • Summer is the most preferred season of visit and there can be a little rush of tourists, although nowhere near as bad as Almora and Nainital. Hotels can be a bit expensive during this time. Try to book rooms a few weeks in advance as there are limited options in Munsiyari and they fill pretty quickly
  • There can be rainfall in May and June. Keep weather forecasts at hand and ask locals about expected weather conditions
  • The overall climate is cool and temperature ranges between 15 °C to 20 °C
  • You may be able to find patches of snow near the summit of Khaliya Top in March

Munsiyari in Monsoon

  • July and August are the monsoon months and experience heavy rainfall
  • Monsoon season brings out nature in its most dazzling forms. The ravishing greenery, rain-soaked valleys and mountain peaks covered by patches of cloud are a treat to watch
  • Flowering is at its peak and many alpine plants are adorned by colourful blossoms
  • There are high chances of views remaining clouded and sometimes you may not see any mountain peaks for days
  • Heavy rainfall can cause landslides and block the roads to Munsiyari. Thick slush at some places after Thal can make driving difficult
  • Monsoon months are less preferred by tourists
  • It can get really cold due to constant rainfall and warm woollen clothes are a must
  • Always check road conditions and weather forecasts before hitting the road

Munsiyari in Autumn

  • Mid-September to October monsoons subside, although it can still rain heavily sometimes
  • Valleys start to turn orange and are painted in autumn colours
  • Over climate is cool and ranges between 15 °C to 20 °C, although it can start to go further down by end of October

Munsiyari in Winter

  • Winter starts its onset by November and continues till February
  • Snow-covered vistas all around the village are a treat to watch
  • Little streaks of snowfall can be seen in November, but actual snowfall happens in late December and January
  • It can get extremely cold and temperature can range between -12 °C to 5 °C
  • Heavy snowfall can block the roads. They may also become slippery and difficult to drive on
  • This is the most favourable time for Honeymoon couples
  • Winter sports like skiing can be done
  • Khaliya Top Trek may get closed due to heavy snowfall
